New City is one of our most consistent residential service areas. The pattern here is different from elsewhere in Rockland — more single-family homes, more smart lock installs, more rekey work driven by home sales and move-ins. We know the developments off Germonds, the streets around the County Center, the newer construction up by Lake DeForest. If you're in New City, we're usually 10–15 minutes away at most.
Safety Note

What we know about New City

New City is the Clarkstown seat and one of the most settled suburban areas in Rockland. The housing stock runs heavier to single-family homes than apartments — colonial revivals from the 60s and 70s up toward Lake DeForest, post-war ranches in the central grid, newer construction in the developments off Germonds Road and in the Summit neighborhood. Most of the locksmith work here is tied to the front door and the car in the driveway.

Two things drive our New City call volume more than anything else. First, home sales and move-ins — rekeying after a closing is the most common residential call in this town, and a lot of new homeowners don't realize it until the realtor mentions it. Second, smart lock installation — Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August, the occasional Kwikset Halo. New City homeowners tend to be comfortable with the technology and want it installed cleanly the first time.

The vehicle mix reflects the demographic. Lots of Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey minivans, family SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Atlas in the driveways along Phillips Hill, plus BMW and Mercedes SUVs throughout the newer pockets. We handle all of it — dealer-level programming on-site for the German makes, standard transponder programming for the Japanese ones. Teen drivers in the house means we get regular calls about first-car spare keys for the Civics, Corollas, and CR-Vs that make up the secondary family fleet.

Roads We Know

Route 304, Germonds Road, Little Tor Road, New Hempstead Road, South Main, North Main, Congers Road, Phillips Hill, the streets around Clarkstown North and South, the developments off Strawtown Road, the ring around the County Center.

Common Calls

Rekey after a home closing, smart lock install on a front door, car key replacement for a lost fob (minivan, Audi, Porsche, or BMW), lockout at the Town Hall or County Center parking lots, first-car spare key for a teen driver, broken garage service-door lock.

Neighborhoods & Blocks

The original grid around Main Street, the colonial developments off Germonds, the Lake DeForest area, the Summit neighborhood, the newer homes on Strawtown and Phillips Hill, the condos and townhome communities along Route 304. Different eras, different hardware generations.

Choosing the Right Smart Lock

Not every smart lock is the right choice for every door. Battery life, Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth, integration with existing home systems, tamper resistance — these matter, and the marketing pages don't tell you where each brand struggles. We install the major brands, and we'll walk you through the tradeoffs before you spend $300 on a lock that won't suit how you actually use your door.

SPECIALTY

Smart locks — installed right the first time

The most common front-door upgrade we do in New City. We install the brands worth installing — Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August, and Kwikset Halo — and we'll steer you away from the ones that aren't. Most jobs are done in 45–60 minutes, including app setup and walking you through the features you'll actually use.

Just closed on a house in New City? Rekey first.

Rekeying is the right move the day you get the keys. Previous owners, cleaners, contractors, real-estate agents, house sitters, neighbors with a spare — you don't know who has a copy of the key that was just handed to you. Rekeying is faster and cheaper than replacing all the locks.

The work we do in New City

Other common New City calls — each one links out to the full write-up.

Auto
Car key replacement in the driveway
Usually 30–60 min on-site

New City runs heavy to family vehicles — Siennas, Odysseys, Highlanders, Pilots — and the household almost always has more than one. When the only key disappears or the fob stops working, we come to your driveway and handle it there. Blade cut from the VIN, transponder paired to the immobilizer, fob programmed. Dealer-level programming on-site for Audi, Porsche, VW, BMW, and Mercedes. We'll ask the year and model when you call and confirm we can do yours before we roll.

Auto
Lockout — County Center, library, trailheads
Usually 15–25 min to arrive

The most common New City lockout spots: the County Center lot after jury duty runs late, the Clarkstown library garage on a Saturday morning, the High Tor trailhead on a weekend hike. We open the door without damage to paint or weatherstripping. Child or pet inside a hot car in summer is a 911 call first — fire department entry is free and faster than us in that specific situation.

Residential
Broken key in a side door
Usually 20–30 min on-site

A key snaps in the back door or the garage service door more often in New City than the front — those doors get the most abuse and the least attention. We extract the broken half without damaging the cylinder, then cut you a fresh key on the spot. If the cylinder is worn enough to have snapped a key, it's worth rekeying while we're there rather than waiting for the next failure.

Commercial
Medical & professional offices
Scheduled around business hours

The Route 304 medical corridor, the dental and physical therapy offices along South Main, the accounting and legal practices in the buildings near the County Center. Most of this work is scheduled for evenings or Sunday so we're out of your way during business hours. Rekey after a staff change, high-security cylinders for HIPAA-sensitive spaces, master key systems, panic bar service for fire code compliance.

How we get to you

Routes clear · standard ETA

Shop is on Old Nyack Turnpike in Spring Valley. For most New City addresses we go up Route 304 north — straight shot, usually 10-12 minutes to central New City. For the western side (off Strawtown, up toward Lake DeForest, or the developments past Germonds Road), we sometimes cut across Germonds instead — avoids the Route 304 traffic through Nanuet during rush hour.

Questions we hear from New City

The ones that come up most often. Real answers, not marketing ones.

Are you located in New City?
No. Our shop is at 274 Old Nyack Turnpike in Spring Valley, about 12 minutes from most of New City. We dispatch throughout the day and serve the entire 10956 ZIP code from that single shop. No New City storefront — just a van on the way.
Do you install smart locks in New City?
Yes. Smart locks are one of the most common residential calls in New City. We install and integrate major brands including Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August, and Kwikset Halo. We'll also walk you through the tradeoffs before you buy — not every smart lock fits every door, and some brands age better than others.
I just closed on a house in New City. Should I rekey or replace the locks?
Rekeying is almost always the right answer. It's faster, cheaper, and gives you the same security outcome — new keys, old locks. Typical cost for a 4-door single-family home rekey is under $200. Replacement only makes sense if the existing hardware is damaged, outdated, or you're upgrading to a smart lock.
How fast can you get to New City?
From our Spring Valley shop to most New City addresses is a 10–15 minute drive under normal traffic. If our technician is finishing a job elsewhere, add that time. When you call, we give you a real ETA based on who is where — not an automated estimate.
Do you work on car keys and fobs?
Yes. Full auto locksmith coverage in New City — lockouts, lost car keys cut and programmed on-site, fob and proximity remote pairing, broken key extraction, and ignition cylinder repair. All makes, including Audi, Porsche, VW, BMW, and Mercedes with dealer-level programming, on-site without towing.
Can I call just to get a quote?
Yes. We'll give you an honest price range over the phone before dispatch. If we can't quote exactly without seeing the door or car, we'll tell you that too — and give you the typical range for your situation.
I'm not sure if I need a locksmith. Can I just call to ask?
Yes. A lot of New City calls turn out to be a dead smart-lock battery, a sticky deadbolt that needs lubrication, or a door that needs adjustment instead of a new lock. We'd rather talk it through over the phone than send a van for something that isn't a locksmith job.
