Commercial locksmith — storefront, office, master key systems

What commercial locksmith actually means

Commercial locksmith work covers a broader range than residential. Storefront rekeys when staff or management changes — bodegas, restaurants, boutiques, any retail with front-counter staff turnover. Master key systems for multi-tenant buildings where a property manager needs access to all units but each tenant has only their own. High-security cylinders (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Abloy) on back doors and service entries where pick resistance matters. Panic bars and exit devices for code-compliant egress in public-facing commercial spaces. File cabinet and desk locks for office security.

We schedule most commercial work outside your business hours so we're not blocking customers or staff during the day. For tenant rekey work in multi-unit buildings, we often handle multiple units in a single visit to minimize disruption. For emergency commercial lockouts — break-in, damaged cylinder, failed electronic access — we dispatch immediately during business hours too. We work with building managers, tenants, and property owners across Rockland; standing arrangements with repeat clients include predictable pricing and priority scheduling.

How commercial projects work

We walk the property with you
For anything beyond a single-door rekey, we come out for a walkthrough before quoting. This lets us see the actual hardware, the building's key control needs, and any existing master key documentation. Walkthrough is free.
We propose the right scope
Sometimes the right answer is a simple rekey. Sometimes it's a full master key system redesign because the existing key control is broken. We tell you which, why, and what it'll cost before starting.
We schedule around your operation
Most commercial work happens outside business hours — evenings, weekends, or early mornings before opening. For retail with staff handoffs, we often schedule between shifts. We don't want to block your customers or stop revenue.
We document key control
Master key systems need documentation — which keys open which doors, who has copies, what the cutting specifications are. We provide that documentation after installation. For property managers juggling multiple units, this matters.
We're available for ongoing service
Staff turnover, new tenant move-ins, annual key audits — commercial locksmith work is often ongoing rather than one-and-done. Standing arrangements with repeat clients get priority scheduling and consistent pricing.

Common questions

Do you schedule outside business hours?
Yes — this is our default for commercial work. Evenings, weekends, or early mornings before opening. For retail, we often schedule between shifts. We don't block your revenue to do our work.
Can you design a master key system for my building?
Yes. We design master key systems from scratch or overhaul existing ones that have lost integrity (keys floating around from prior tenants, missing documentation, uncontrolled copies). Design includes the hardware specification, the keying chart, and the documentation for your property management.
What's the difference between standard and high-security cylinders?
Standard cylinders (Schlage, Kwikset, Sargent) are pick-resistant to some degree but vulnerable to bump keys and professional picking. High-security cylinders (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Abloy) use additional security features — angled pins, side bars, magnetic elements — that make picking and bumping substantially harder. For commercial back doors facing parking areas or service alleys, high-security is usually worth the upgrade.
Do you install panic bars?
Yes. Commercial egress doors in public-facing spaces are typically code-required to have panic hardware allowing one-push exit. We install, replace, and repair panic bars and exit devices throughout Rockland. This work is typically scheduled during an inspection or occupancy event.
Do you offer standing arrangements for property managers?
Yes. Repeat clients get priority scheduling, consistent pricing across properties, and simplified ordering for turnover rekeys. We handle property management portfolios across Monsey, Spring Valley, Haverstraw, Nanuet, and elsewhere. Contact us for commercial account terms.
What if my business had a break-in?
We dispatch immediately for break-in response. First priority is getting the business secure — replacing damaged cylinders, boarding or securing damaged doors, and restoring basic operation. We can then do a full security audit afterward to address whatever vulnerability the break-in exposed.

What other locksmiths won't touch

A lot of commercial locksmith work isn't about locks at all — it's about the door hardware that keeps the lock doing its job. Leaking or blown door closers that leave the door swinging on every customer. Vertical panic bars on storefront glass doors — the tall narrow ones that go from top to bottom — that most locksmiths won't service because the parts are specialized and the install is fiddly. Hinges torn out of the door jamb from years of slamming, forced entry attempts, or a delivery that hit wrong. Storefront doors out of alignment — the lock won't catch, the door rubs, the gap at the top is an inch wider than the bottom.

We handle all of this. For blown door closers we replace with appropriately-sized commercial-grade units. For failing vertical panic bars we source and install direct replacements that match the door cutouts. For hinge damage — especially recurring hinge damage from heavy daily use — we recommend continuous hinges (also called geared or piano hinges) that run the full length of the door and distribute load across the entire height. These don't fail the way cut-leaf hinges do, and for high-traffic storefronts they're the only hinge that makes long-term sense.

If your storefront is out of alignment, the root cause is usually frame settling or the door itself warping. We diagnose on-site and tell you honestly whether it's a hinge fix, a frame fix, or whether the door needs replacement. We don't pretend a hinge swap will fix a warped door.

Access control & electronic entry

Mag lock that won't release. Electric strike with no power. An access control system installed 10 years ago that nobody can figure out how to reprogram. A building with multiple entry points that needs centralized access with timers, WiFi admin, and battery backup. This is its own category of work — see our access control services for details, or call us and we'll walk through what your building needs.
